BEARPARK Woodland Group will plant 250 native broad-leaved trees in Bearpark Colliery woods, near Durham, on Sunday, March 16, between 10am and 4pm, as part of the Big Tree Plant campaign. Volunteers are welcome to join in. The site will be signposted from Aldin Grange Terrace. Visitors are advised to wear suitable clothing and footwear. WOMEN’S DAY: Alington House Women’s Group will celebrate International Women’s Day with an open day featuring various demonstrations and activities at Alington House community centre, North Bailey, Durham, on Thursday, March 13, between 11am and 1pm. Entry costs £2, including tea and coffee.
WAR TALKS: Lawrence Jones will give a talk on the First World War at the next meeting of the Northumberland and Durham Family History Society’s Durham-Belmont branch in Belmont Community Centre, Sunderland Road, Gilesgate, Durham, on Wednesday, March 19, at 1pm. Non-members are welcome.
NEW STORE: A new Clintons card shop is to open on Silver Street, Durham City, tomorrow (Thursday, March 6). It will sell cards, wrap, candles and other goods.
GARDEN TALK: Durham Organic Gardeners’ Association will host a talk and demonstration by Taylors Clematis Nursery, Doncaster, at Bowburn Community Centre, Durham Road, Bowburn, on Wednesday, March 12, at 7.30pm. Entry is free and all are welcome. Light refreshments will be available.
