OVERSEAS youth workers on a return visit to the North-East helped plant fruit trees on the first day of their trip.

The visitors, from Bulgaria, Turkey and Denmark, are visiting Barnard Castle as part of the Youth In Action project, for a week of environmentally-themed activities and to provide feedback on similar themed projects they have worked on since their first visit, in October.

They joined the Heart of Teesdale Landscape Partnership, at The Hub, in Barnard Castle, today (Monday) helping to plant trees with Thom Robinson, from the Veg Out project.

The visit has been arranged by Teesdale School’s Extended Services department with funding from the Youth In Action initiative.

Eve Galloway, the school’s Extended Services co-ordinator, said: “This is the second leg of this project.

“We will keep in touch via a special website that is being created.”

The week will culminate with a ‘trashion show’ at The Hub, on Friday, where outfits created from rubbish will be modeled.

The event starts at 7pm and is open to the public. Entry is £3 for adults and free for children and young people.
