POLICE are renewing an appeal for information following a collision between a pedestrian and a car in Sunderland.

The incident happened at 8.20am, on Monday, November 4, 2013, on Riverside Park, near to the Hylton Sea cadets premises when a man was involved in a collision with a burgundy Rover 75 while out walking his two golden retrievers.

The 66-year-old received serious injuries as a result of the collision for which he continues to receive treatment.

One of his dogs escaped the collision unharmed. However, the other died.

The occupants of the vehicle, believed to be two men and two teenage girls, left the scene prior to police arrival.

Police arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of failing to stop after an accident. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Officers are now issuing a further appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

Sgt Lynne McKevitt, from Northumbria Police's Motor Patrols, said: "We have made extensive enquiries in relation to this collision which are ongoing.

"An earlier appeal failed to identify the two teenage girls in the vehicle at the time of the collision. I am keen to speak to these women - it's still not too late for them to come forward and they may have information to assist with enquiries.

"I would urge anyone any information on the incident to contact us."
