CHURCHGOERS hope to raise the roof at an entertainment night.

Parishioners from St Mary’s Church, in Sherburn Village, near Durham have organised an event to raise money to repair the Victorian building’s roof.

Entertainers Mark Allen, Leah O’Neal and The Ringtones will perform at Sherburn Village Workingmen’s Club on April 4, starting at 8pm.

Tickets, priced £3, are available from the club, members of the church or on 0191-372 0707.

Helen Murray, from the church’s events committee, said: "It’s a beautiful church and it really is lovely inside. We hope to raise enough money to get it back to its former glory."
