OLD pals will be able to catch up at a special reunion planned for Barnard Castle in May.

It will involve former pupils of Barnard Castle Secondary Modern School who left in 1962 along with ex-players of both Barnard Castle United FC, which wound up in 1975, and Barnard Castle Spartans, which ran for about five seasons in the 1960s.

The reunion is being organised by Brian Robinson, who has links with all three organisations.

It will take place at Barnard Castle Workingmen's Club on Saturday, May 17, starting at 7pm, but Mr Robinson is eager to hear from those planning to go along in advance.

“Barnard Castle Secondary Modern is where Green Lane Primary School is now. At the time it was a brand new school,” he said.

“We had a reunion a few years ago when we were all 60 and I always said I would do another one as everyone said they enjoyed it so much.”

A 1994 get-together of former Spartans players was also a success, so Mr Robinson decided to incorporate them into the reunion.

“I also played for Barnard Castle United, so I thought I would bring them into it as well,” he said.

“I have kept in touch with quite a few folk and a lot of people still live locally, but I have heard from others further afield, including one chap from Australia.”

Mr Robinson said he was expecting up to 300 people to attend the reunion.

Anyone interested in going along or who would like further details can contact Mr Robinson on 01833-631539.
