MEMBERS of a Nordic walking group are encouraging other people to pick up some poles and join in.

Nordic Walking is one of the latest exercise classes to be offered at the Pioneering Care Centre, on Carers Way in Newton Aycliffe, and has proven very popular with those who have tried it.

It involves using specially designed poles to turn the natural walking experience into a full body exercise that improves joint mobility and relieves tension in the neck and shoulders.

It also burns 46 per cent more calories than normal walking.

The Get Active Nordic Walking class takes place on Wednesday mornings, from 9.45am to10.45pm, and costs £2 per session.

The first class is free and poles will be provided.

A qualified leader will teach the basic techniques before progressing onto a walk around picturesque parts of the Aycliffe Way.
