BRITISH students who have been studying in the Netherlands are visiting the North-East to invite school and college leavers to “go Dutch” for a day.

They will be visiting schools and colleges in the region to tell pupils and students about their experiences at one of Europe’s top universities where fees are just £1,500 a year and courses are taught in English.

And they will be inviting would-be students and their parents to see for themselves what Maastricht University has to offer by attending a special Bachelors open day there on March 15.

Maastricht University is ranked higher than many leading UK universities and is very popular with students from the South-East. There are currently 300 British undergraduates at the University – 134 per cent more than two years ago.

Lucie Galloway, 20, who is now in the second year of a degree in international business at Maastricht, will be visiting Harrogate Ladies College, the independent girls’ school in North Yorkshire, on May 5 to share her experience with students.

“I will be telling them that studying in a different culture may seem challenging at first, but three years down the line when they are choosing their careers, it will pay dividends,” she said.

“The international experience and meeting people from many different cultures will widen their perspective on the world and make them more attractive to employers.”

Lucie is planning a career in investment banking and has been offered a summer internship with a major London investment bank.

Representatives from Maastricht University will also be attending the Student World Fair at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds on March 23.

Students who are planning to enter university in 2015 can also attend Maastricht’s open day on November 8.
