A DAUGHTER is walking 118 miles in memory of her father to raise money for the charity that helped look after him.

Vicky Whitfield, from Newton Aycliffe, is planning to walk from Shildon to Hull via Whitby over five days.

Her father, Michael Allinson, also known as Tosh, passed away in October last year, aged 58, after battling the disease for 15 years.

She said her father, who was a fan of heavy rock music, would be very proud as he always wanted to do something to raise money for Parkinson’s UK.

“We are walking to The Deep in Hull, there’s a sea life centre there that I used to go to with dad.

“He was originally from Shildon, and then we all moved to Hull, before moving back up to the North East.

Mrs Whitfield will complete the walk with her husband, Philip, and family members Tasha Jones and Clare Smith.

They will sleep outdoors whilst completing the trek, taking camping equipment with them.

“We have been preparing for weeks, going to boot camp classes, and doing lots of walking. We’ve just recently done a 14 mile walk.”

“I’m really excited but I know I’m going to miss my kids as I’ll be away from them for a few days.”

Mrs Whitfield will set off from Sunnydale Leisure Centre, Shildon, on Saturday, March 1, at 8am, she is hoping to raise £500 for the charity.
