POLICE are hunting a bogus workman suspected of obtaining money by deception.

It is believed he made unsolicited visits to two homes in Stokesley, on North Road and The Avenue on Monday, February 10, between 10am and noon, when he offered to carry out roofing work.

At one of the houses, he was paid £170, although it doesn't appear any work was done.

PC Blair Taylor, of Stokesley Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “If you are the man caught on camera and you are not the bogus workman, I urge you to come forward straight away, so that I can eliminate you from my enquiries.

“I also need to speak to anyone who can help to identify the suspect and urge them to get in touch.”

PC Blair, added: “Can I remind homeowners not to use the services of workmen who cold call at your home. Rather they should use a tradesman who has advertised locally. Or better still, use someone recommended by a relative or friends.”

Anyone who can assist officers with this investigation should contact Stokesley police on 101 and ask for Blair Taylor. Alternatively, information can be emailed to; blair.taylor@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk. Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 5551111, quoting reference number 12140022637.
