A COUNCILLOR is unhappy at how a council has promoted an energy discount scheme.

Liberal Democrat Mark Wilkes has made a number of criticisms of Durham County Council’s work advertising the Government’s Warm Home Discount scheme.

Councillor Wilkes said the Labour-led council took months to write to people eligible for up to £135 off their electricity bill and when it finally did, the letter contained mistakes.

Stuart Timmiss, the council’s head of planning and assets, said the authority had been waiting for information from the Energy Saving Trust and the document Coun Wilkes had seen was a very early draft and he was aware of that.

A revised letter has now been sent to 11,000 households across the county.

Mr Timmiss said the council’s record in the area was superb and some fantastic work was being done.
