POLICE are negotiating with a man in North Yorkshire and have cordoned off a house.

The incident is ongoing at the property at Osbaldwick in York and police say the man is threatening to harm himself.

"Officers were alerted to Osbaldwick Lane at 7.56pm on Friday after concerned relatives feared for the man’s wellbeing," a spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said.

"The scene was quickly contained by officers.

"The man, who is in a confused state of mind, remains in the house alone and there is no danger to the wider public.

"Police will continue their efforts to bring the situation to safe conclusion."

The spokesman said an update will be issued in due course.
