POLICE have arrested a man in connection with a number of robberies in the Newcastle area.
"At around 8.30pm on Friday, January 31, officers carried out a preplanned operation to arrest a 43-year-old man in the Brunswick Village area of Newcastle," a spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said.
"He was arrested in connection with robberies in the Newcastle area and he is currently in police custody."
Northumbria Police Superintendent Mick Paterson added: "Residents in Brunswick Village would have seen a large policing presence this evening and I want to reassure them that this was a precaution and part of the preplanned operation to make an arrest.
"I'd like to thank the community for their assistance and cooperation."
