A FIREFIGHTER from the North-East is hoping to represent the UK in the Naked Sledding World Championships 2014.

Holly Garshong, 29, from Barnes, Sunderland, is down to the last ten finalists and is hoping to hit the slopes in Germany next month.

Voting closes today, and one man and one woman, will be chosen to fly the flag for Great Britain at the tournament, which takes place on February 15.

Ms Garshong, whose parents were nudists, was playing at a ski resort with her band Four Star Hero when she got the news that she had made the final ten.

She said: “I’m not bothered about being cold, as long as I get a cup of tea at the end of it.

“My parents are nudists. We used to go on nudist holidays and it was just normal to me, growing up.

“We started when I was about six and I just got brought up that way.

“Everyone was naked and people weren’t looking at each other. It was just normal.”

A 1,000 Euro prize is available for the first man and woman to cross the finish line.

Competitors are allowed to wear pants, boots and a helmet, to keep them safe as they scoot across the snow of the 89-metre course in Braunlage.

It is the first time the UK has entered a team to the competition, now in its fifth year.

The qualified fitness instructor said: “I sledge when it snows, but we don’t often get snow.”
