GUISBOROUGH'S Mark Benton, who was bottom of the judges' leaderboard, wowed his home crowd by winning Strictly Come Dancing in Newcastle tonight (Thursday, January 30).

The Strictly Come Dancing glitterball dazzled over Newcastle Metro Radio Arena as series winner and disco diva Abbey Clancy brought some Thursday Night Fever to the show with her Saturday Night Fever salsa to You Should Be Dancing.

Finalist Susanna Reid and Kevin Clifton from Grimsby shone in their passionate, foot-stomping Paso Doble.

Actor Mark Benton wowed the audience with his unique rendition of MC Hammer’s You Can’t Touch This, wearing a shiny gold toffee-wrapper shirt.

Other stars who took to the floor included Dragons’ Den entrepreneur Deborah Meaden and Westlife heartthrob, Nicky Byrne.

As well as recreating her elegant Viennese Waltz, Coronation Street actress Natalie Gumede performed a fast and furious jive to Proud Mary, which she couldn’t showcase on the BBC1 hit show after fainting in week seven.

While the dances unfolded on the huge arena dancefloor a pantomime full of double entendres was being played out by judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood while fairy godmother, new host Lisa Riley spent most of the night feeling former England rugby player Ben Cohen’s muscles, and cooing, “I love my job”.

The Strictly singers were given their chance to shine by opening the show and closing the first half with an electrifying performance of Christine Aguilera's Candyman. It was fab-u-lous.
