POLICE have confirmed that a person has been found dead following a house fire in Middlesbrough.

Cleveland Police were called out to Burlam Road, Middlesbrough, which runs alongside Linthorpe Cemetery, at 10.20am this morning.

One person – believed to be the only occupant – was found dead in the property. Police said the next of kin had not yet been traced and they could not confirm whether the dead person was male or female at this stage.

A joint police and fire brigade investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched, with inquiries at an early stage.

No more details of the dead person will be released until the next of kin has been informed, police said.
