A FORMER nurse who led a campaign for a privacy room for patients’ families at a North-East hospital 20 years ago is returning to her fundraising in aid of a children’s ward.
Jean McCready played a key part in raising funds for a room of peace and quiet at Darlington Memorial Hospital in 1993, which could also be used for relatives to stay the night.
And now Mrs McCready is raising more funds for the children’s unit Ward 21 at the hospital.

Mrs McCready from Middridge near Shildon, County Durham, is holding a fund raising night at the Bay Horse pub in the village on Friday, February 7.
Mrs McCready, whose five-year-old grandson received some treatment on the ward, said: “I wanted to give something back and discovered they would really appreciate things such as cot mobiles and extra sensory equipment for the smaller children.
“They rely on donations for all these extra things so I started holding coffee mornings, then did a small Christmas fair at Middridge Hall.
“The big thing will be the charity night with lots of raffle prizes provided by local businesses, people have been very kind especially Redworth Hall Hotel, who has donated some fantastic prizes.”
Mrs McCready also praised the owners of the Bay Horse for their support.
The event will start at 7pm with entertainment and a raffle.
