Baton round fired by police at man claiming to have a gun

POLICE fired a baton round at a man claiming to have a gun last night.
Officers from Cleveland Police were called to a property on Durnford Road in Middlesbrough, shortly before 10.30pm.
Both armed and unarmed officers attended the scene and cordoned off the address following reports that there was a man claiming to have a gun inside.
A spokeswoman for the force said: "In response to the man’s actions, a baton round was discharged by police shortly after 11.30pm.
"The man, who was inside the address, was taken to hospital for treatment.
"His injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this stage.
"No-one else was in the address at the time of the incident and no-one else was injured.
"A 46-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and will be questioned by police.
"In line with national procedures, the matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission."
