VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help offer respite to those who care for a loved one.

Northallerton and District Voluntary Service Association are looking for people who can help the unsung heroes by offering a few hours a week to allow full time carers to have a break.

Project co-ordinator Helen Crannage said: “All carers should have the chance of some relief from their daily routine and our scheme gives them this opportunity.

“Unfortunately at the moment, although we are helping record numbers, we still do not have enough volunteers to support the demand for this much needed service.”

Volunteers visit on a weekly basis for two or three hours at a time, with timings for the visits being negotiated between the carer and volunteer. Volunteers must be over 18, reliable, friendly and caring. They must also undergo an enhanced disclosure, provide two references and will receive full training for the role.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer sitter - or using the service - can contact Helen Crannage on 01609-780458 or visit ndvsa.co.uk
