A DARLINGTON charity has received a cash boost of more than £2,000 after the latest in a string of fundraising efforts by a long-serving volunteer.
Nancy Spencer has been involved with St Teresa’s Hospice for the past 15 years.
A fundraiser she organised at Rolling Mills Social Club, in Longfield Road, before Christmas, raised the grand total of £2,165.20.
The event, the eighth organised by Mrs Spencer in recent years, was a 1960s-themed night, with live music and a pie and pies supper.
Hospice director Jane Bradshaw visited the club on Wednesday (January 22) morning, to receive a cheque on behalf of the charity.
Mrs Spencer answered a call for volunteers from the hospice 15 years ago, after being forced to give up work due to ill health.
She said: “I am not the kind of person to sit around the house, so I was looking for something to do with my time.
“People do not realise how important places like St Teresa’s are – no one ever knows when they could need its services.
“They do not get a lot of help, so every penny counts.”
