POLICE are trying to piece together the cause of a four car pile-up on one of North Yorkshire’s main routes.
The smash happened outside the Little Chef on the westbound carriageway of the A64 at Bilbrough Top, near York, at around 12.50pm on Sunday, January 19.
The collision involved a blue Vauxhall Corsa, a blue BMW 3 series, a blue Ford Focus and a grey Nissan Micra and led to the Corsa leaving the road and hitting a tree.
Several people were injured in the incident and were taken to York Hospital for treatment but their injuries are not believed to be serious.
The westbound carriageway was closed while the vehicles were recovered. It reopened at around 2.30pm.
Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw a dark-coloured vehicle which may have been parked in the carriageway prior to the incident, to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option two and ask for Traffic Constable Paul Long.
Alternatively, information can be emailed to paul.long@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
