LIVING WAGE PRAISE: THE Archbishop of York has praised City of York Council leaders for introducing a “living wage” for council workers. The authority agreed last year to raise the salaries of its 570 lowest-paid staff to £7.45 an hour, higher than the legal minimum wage, and is now due to do the same for 120 casual staff as part of efforts to tackle poverty in the city. Dr John Sentamu sent a letter to council leader James Alexander, saying he was “delighted” the living wage had been brought in at the authority.
