AN ART exhibition by people with learning difficulties is brightening up a building society in Darlington.

Artists working with the Community Art Project (CAP) are currently displaying their work at Darlington Building Society, on Tubwell Row.

The colourful pieces are centre stage at an in-branch art gallery set up by the Darlington Society of Arts.

The work, from artists including Olive Hutchinson, Louise McClurg, Burt Walsh and Alan Singer, was produced as part of a CAP initiative to provide opportunities for those with learning difficulties to pursue arts activities under the guidance of a professional artist.

Sharon Willetts, of Darlington Building Society, said: “The CAP recognises and nurtures the talents of local people with learning disabilities and it was extremely gratifying to provide some of their artists with such a prominent town centre shop window for their work.

“Local people should take the opportunity to come in to our branch and have a look at the fantastic art on display”.

All artwork is available to buy, with prices ranging from £25.

The building society has purchased four pieces, which will be displayed in its head office in Morton Road.
