LOCAL musicians are staging a concert to raise funds for disaster relief in the Philippines.

The country was devastated in November by Typhoon Haiyan, prompting a worldwide appeal for help.

Chester-le-Street keyboardist John Horgan, whose wife Nida is from the Philippines, is part of a concert held on Friday, January 17.

It will be held at St Cuthbert’s Catholic Church Club, off Ropery Lane, between 7pm and 11pm.

It will feature his progressive rock group Gil Galad and other bands and singers.

There will be raffles and auctions and a suggested entry donation of £5.

Mrs Horgan said that all money raised would go to the Disaster Emergency Committee.

“I have family back in the Philippines – most of them are aunts – and they were evacuated before the storm arrived. They say it has flattened everything,” she said.
