A HALF tonne bust depicting one of the region's famous faces has gone back on public view.
The statue of Dainty Dinah, whose Edwardian face adorned tins of toffees which bore her name, has been moved from the now closed Chester-le-Street Civic Centre to the mall at Morrison's supermarket in the town.
The store is built on the site of G W Horner confectioners, which produced the Dainty Dinah brand between 1914 and 1961.
Bishop Auckland-based Ingram's Removals was appointed by Durham County County to move the statue.
Malcolm Ingram said great had been taken transporting the bust.
“Although half a tonne in weight, made from concrete and steel rods and completed with a glazed finish, the statue was still fragile enough to require a purpose made wooded crate to be specially built.
“The delicate operation took four staff three hours using the necessary specialised equipment to move the valuable statue to its new permanent home.”
