A NEW headteacher has taken over at one of the region’s top comprehensive schools.
Michael Wardle started work at Durham Johnston School, in Durham City, after Christmas, succeeding Carolyn Roberts, who left after eight-and-a-half years at the helm.
Mr Wardle said he was committed to all the school’s students, stretching each student academically while inspiring a love of knowledge and social justice.
The 39-year-old linguist was formerly deputy headteacher at Framwellgate School Durham and a schools inspector.
On his appointment, he said: “It’s an honour and I take the weight of responsibility seriously.
“Clearly it’s a very high-attaining school.
“It has seen a number of successes, it’s got a wonderful reputation and I want to continue that.”
