New store: A new supermarket is opening on Vivis Lane, Pickering, on January 16 at 8am, The new Lidl store is creating 16 full and part-time jobs.

Archive store: The Sheriff Hutton History Group has raised £14,000 to build and equip an archive room to preserve its collection. The group was set up in 2012, although the collection of historic material has been continuing since 2003.

Lions’ award: Voluntary worker Daphne Bowes, of Middleton Road, Pickering, has been honoured by the Ryedale Lions Club for her tireless commitment to the local community. She was presented with the club’s annual Certificate of Appreciation by president Vic Hall.
