AN application has been lodged to build a wind turbine on farmland near a popular walkway.
A planning application has been lodged with Durham County Council for a single wind turbine at Lindisfarne Farm in the village of Rowley, near Castleside.
The turbine would stand 15-metres tall to its hub and have a total height to the tip of its blades of 19.9-metres, capable of generating 49,000 KWh per year of electricity The farm stands in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is around 1km from the Waskerley Way, part of the C2C coast-to-coast route which is popular with walkers and cyclists.
However, the applicants say the turbine could not be seen from the walkway because of the natural contours of the land.
