Fire crews were called to rescue an eight-year-old mare called Shanty who got stuck in a ditch on Bad Bargain Lane near the Tang Hall area York around midday on Saturday (January 5). Fire crews from York were assisted by crews from Malton Fire station with specialist horse rescue equipment.

TRAFFIC LIGHT FAILURE The A163 Main Street in Bubwith, near York, was closed in both directions after it was believed a traffic light failure caused a road accident. It is understood the lights on either side of the bridge both showed green prior to the accident at about 7pm on Saturday, January 4. Three people are said to have been injured.

ARSONISTS TARGET BARN: Fire crews were called to a barn fire at Stape near Pickering at 11.30pm on Saturday, January 4, which they believed to have been started deliberately. The barn contained 100 tonnes of hay and straw, which were completely destroyed by the fire. The building, near Brown Howe Road, also suffered damage in the blaze.
