THE Hannon Murphy School of Irish Dancing will present Murphy’s Legacy, a new Irish dance show featuring 30 dancers and accompanied by folk band The Craikers, at the Gala Theatre, Durham, on Saturday, January 11. The cast includes All Ireland Champions and former Lord of the Dance show principal dancers and combines modern choreography and traditional music. Proceeds will be used to buy new costumes for the World Irish Dancing Championships in London. The show starts at 7.30pm. BOOK SALE: A book sale is held daily from Monday to Friday upstairs at Alington House Community Centre, 4 North Bailey, Durham, from 10am to 4pm. Books are priced from £1 each, with children’s books priced from 20p each. Proceeds go to the upkeep of the building.

NEW MEMBER: A new member will be sworn in to the ceremonial bodyguard of Councillor Pauline Charlton, the Mayor of Durham, during a ceremony at Durham Town Hall on Wednesday (January 8) at 5pm. The meeting is open to the public.
