A 24-year-old man suffered head injuries after a large fight broke out outside the Stag's Head pub in Headlam Street, Byker, Newcastle.

Officers were called to the scene at just before 12.55am this morning. (Wednesday, January 1) The man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where his condition is described as ‘stable’.

Three men aged 18, 19 and 20 were arrested at the scene and are helping police with their investigation.

EAR BITTEN: An 18-year-old man had part of his ear bitten off during a disturbance at Hareydene, Newbiggin Hall, Newcastle.

Police were called at 2.25am this morning (Wednesday, January 1) and inquiries are ongoing in the area to trace the man responsible for the assault.

HOSPITAL PARKING: A new scheme to stop people parking illegally has been introduced at a Tyneside hospital.

South Tyneside District Hospital’s chief operating officer Helen Ray said the new system, which uses number plate recognition technology, would be "more efficient" and "convenient" for patients and visitors.

Parking charges will remain the same.
