Darlington town centre CCTV catches burglars out

The Northern Echo: Durham Police Constabulary Durham Police Constabulary

TOWN centre CCTV cameras caught out three men suspected of stealing from a charity.

The trio was arrested in Darlington after CCTV camera operators alerted police to the fact they were carrying bicycles and bike parts through the town centre.

It was later found that the men had stolen the bikes from the Bike Stop shop – a charity initiative that helps disadvantaged people gain skills by fixing donated bicycles to sell on.

The men, all from the Darlington area and aged between 27 and 45-years-old, have been remanded to appear before magistrates.

All the stolen items were recovered.

bunt61 and Davy Crockett - I totally agree with your comments guys. The court needs to sort out it's act. After all the hard from CCTV and the police it is shameful that they will probably get the 'Don't be a naughty person' speech from magistrates. To be honest, they should be going to Crown Court and not local court, to get a tougher sentence.
Well done to the CCTV guys and the police for catching these scum.

About time the CCTV cameras picked up a crime. I have had a bike vandalised twice and one stolen. The cameras and most of the people in the area always seem to be looking the other way

We definitely need proper deterrents starting with full and complete restitution of any loss to the victim even if this means raiding houses and taking pocessions for resale. No restitution should result in jail

The birch would be appropriate. They wouldn't be able to sit down for a month. Or ride a bike for 3.
