LADY Gaga, Elton John and Nirvana are among some of the World’s biggest groups set to play at a County Durham football club’s first festival (sort of).

The Wannasee Festival will see 13 of Europe’s top tribute acts perform over two-days at Heritage Park, home of Bishop Auckland Football Club.

Tributes to Queen, Bon Jovi, Elton John, and the Black Eyed Peas will perform on the first day along with Lady Gaga tribute Totally Gaga.

The second day will be more for rock fans with tributes to the Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Kasabian, Guns and Roses and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers taking to the stage.

And organisers said they hope to confirm more acts in January.

The festival will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 24 and 25, with tickets on sale now.

It is the first time Bishop Auckland’s stadium has hosted a major music concert, and organisers are hoping for several thousand fans to attend.

The event has been organised by the team behind the regular tribute nights in Shildon, County Durham, and the Stone Valley Music Festival held in Weardale last year.

Richard Tremewan, interim chairman of the football club, said the festival should prove a big boost to the area.

He said: “As well as bringing some big acts to our doorstep, this festival will also attract people to the area giving a boost to the local businesses.

“It promises to be a great weekend and we are really excited about hosting it at the club.

“We always said we wanted the club to be part of the community, and what better way to do that than by putting on a big festival that will get the town and visitors excited.”

Organiser John Bannan said he hopes the festival will become an annual event on Bishop Auckland’s music calendar.

Tickets will cost £18 per day or £28 for a full weekend, half that for children aged between 10 and 17 and will be free for under 10s, although they must be accompanied by an adult.
