DURHAM Johnston Art department has gained an enviable reputation for the skilful work of its students.

This has been reflected in the Durham City school’s national and International success from winning the Saatchi Prize (from 22,000 entries worldwide), having work selected for the Royal Academy online summer exhibition and achieving recognition from OFSTED for excellence in art in a good practice report.

The latest national achievement for the department is winning the Education Business Award for Art at the EBA awards event at the Emirates Stadium London.

Durham Johnston was shortlisted with two London schools and the award was presented by top Olympian Roger Black.

Head of art Sheila Hitchcock, attributes the department’s success to the commitment and aspirations of staff and students in the art department at Durham Johnston and was delighted to receive the award that recognises their outstanding achievement.
