FOOTBALL fans can enjoy a nostalgic trip through the history of the sport’s amateur teams with a display at Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon, County Durham.
The Durham Amateur Football Trust event will focus on an era dubbed the 'golden age of amateur North-East football' when teams such as Bishop Auckland regularly attracted gates of several thousand.
Teams boasted star players such as Bishop Auckland who lent Manchester United Derek Lewin, Bob Hardisty and Warren Bradley in the wake of the 1958 Munich air disaster.
The display starts with the birth of the Northern League in 1889 and it runs through to the last ever FA Amateur Cup Final in 1974.
The Durham Amateur Football Trust exhibition runs between Monday, January 6 and Friday, February 7 with doors open daily between 10am and 4pm.
