FAMILIES took a break from Christmas shopping and put their feet up to enjoy festive films yesterday (Saturday December 14).

A big screen broadcast a trio of seasonal movies to crowds in Darlington’s Market Square this weekend.

The much-loved Dr Seuss tale How the Grinch Stole Christmas kicked off proceedings at 11am and was followed by Polar Express at 2pm and the classic Miracle on 34th Street at 5pm.

The films – arranged by Distinct Darlington – will be shown again next Saturday (December 21) at the same times.

Distinct Darlington’s manager Alex Hirst said: “All three are great family films and they’re guaranteed to bring some festive spirit to shoppers and residents alike.

“Plenty of chairs will also be provided so they can rest their weary feet during a busy days’ shopping.”

The town centre is also hosting a number of other festive treats for families, who can enjoy activities like fairground rides and the Christmas Wonderland Ice Rink.
