RESIDENTS have been evacuated from their homes following a gas leak in a in York. Fire crews from York and Acomb were called to deal with a blaze at a home on Philadelphia Terrace, in the South Bank area at about 10.45am this morning (Friday, December 13).
A man in his 60s was rescued by firefighters from his burning home after he climbed on to the top of a bay window. He was taken to York Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
It is believed the fire involved a gas leak and some residents on the street were evacuated following fears of a gas explosion.
Police cordoned the road off and gas engineers were called to the scene to make the supply safe.
