A MOTORIST has been killed in a two vehicle crash which closed the A689 for several hours.

The male driver, who is in his 20s and believed to be from the Sunderland area, was travelling alone when he was killed near Sedgefield, County Durham, at 12.40pm today. (Thursday, December 12)

The male driver of the second car and his female passenger suffered minor injuries.

The injured man was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton and the woman was taken to James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.

The Great North Air Ambulance was sent to the scene but it was not needed. The fire service sent crews from Newton Aycliffe and Spennymoor.
