POLICE raided 15 homes across south Durham this morning as part of a major crackdown on the drugs trade.
More than 165 officers targeted addresses in Bishop Auckland, Newton Aycliffe and Shildon believed to be concerned in the dealing of heroin.
Community representatives were also invited along to watch the strikes which took place at about 6.15am.
Chief Inspector Dave Turner said officers hoped to arrest 16 people, with a further three who are already in custody being produced as part of the investigation.
He said much of the information on which Operation Orient was based came from the public, adding: “We should thank them for that, and for their patience and tolerance.”
