AN appeal by people touched by the tragic death of three-year-old Darlington boy Danny Wake has been answered by soft drinks giant, Coca-Cola.

This afternoon (Monday, December 2) the company's iconic Coca-Cola Christmas lorry stopped in the town in memory of little Danny, who was killed in an apparent hit-and-run incident last month.

The star of the popular ‘Holidays are Coming’ advert is currently touring the nation and an online campaign saw dozens of people contact Coca-Cola to ask for the iconic truck to make a stop in Darlington, as Danny was a big fan of the advert.

Darlington MP Jenny Chapman was one of those behind the appeal, which had gathered pace with the help of social media networks.

“What I thought was this family (Danny’s) has been through a terrible tragedy and it seemed like a very small request to me, but we were up against a large corporation that didn’t seem very interested in our request," she said.

“So I am very pleased that Coca-Cola have made this gesture in bringing the truck to Darlington.”

Scores of people gathered in the town’s West Row to have photos taken with the iconic truck, including Danny’s younger brother, Georgie.

His uncle, Scott Sherlock, said: “It is really great, spot on. Danny loved the truck – he had seen it in Middlesbrough before.

“He would love it being here in Darlington.”

The youngster died after being hit by a vehicle in an apparent hit-and run incident.

It happened at 10.35am on Monday, November 4 at the junction of Neasham Road and Falmer Road and the driver of the vehicle has yet to be traced.

Danny, who was walking with his mother, younger brother and six-year-old relative at the time of the incident, had been into town to pick up an Argos catalogue so he could choose his Christmas presents.

Police are urging any witnesses, or anyone who has any information about the incident, to call the non-emergency number 101.
