DONATIONS of unwanted DVDs, CDs and game has raised £601.45 for Children in Need.

Sunderland-based WeBuyDvds.co.uk invited employees across the region to donate unwanted DVDs, CDs and games at work, which it bought for a top rate and gave the proceeds to the children’s charity.

Celebrities supported the initiative, including Jeff Brown, sports correspondent and presenter on BBC Look North, and Mrs Brown’s Boys actor Gary Hollywood, who plays Dino.

National storage giant Safestore provided drop-off points on Tyneside and people in Durham could donate items at Durham Self Store, Langley Moor.

Mr Brown described the fund-raiser as a “terrific idea”.

He added: “ Everyone I know has DVDs, CDs and games stuck in a cupboard, which they never watch, me included. What a great way to have a clear out and raise money for a fantastic cause at the same time.”

This year Children in Need raised a record £31m during the live telethon alone, smashing the previous record.
