MORE than 40 community groups will be competing for funding at an event being held this weekend.

Residents will be asked to vote for their favourite projects to receive a share of £40,000 funding.

The "Your Money, Your Area, Your Views" vote has been organised by the Derwent Valley Partnership.

A total of 41 local groups will display details of their projects in St Patrick’s Church Hall, in Consett on Saturday (November 16) with grants of between £500 and £5,000 available.

To vote, people must be aged 11 or over and live, work or study in the Derwent Valley area.

The event runs from 10am to 2.30pm and people attending will also be able to tell the partnership what they think priorities should be for their area, take part in a consultation exercise on where Durham County Council should make cuts as it aims to save another £100m from its budget and also take part in consultation on the County Durham Plan.

Refreshments will be available and everyone is welcome to attend.
