Darlington 1883 take on football challenge to open new turf
10:00pm Monday 21st October 2013 in News
TALENTED student footballers took on Darlington 1883 to officially unveil a school’s new artificial pitch.
King James I Academy, in Bishop Auckland, has installed the 4G turf pitch to improve the outdoor sports facilities available to pupils and the wider community.
The match raised money for charity Scope and the students taking part were all from Year 11 or Sixth Form studying a Btec in sport at the Martin Gray Football Academy.
Debbie Connell, of King James I Academy, said: “It has been open two weeks and it has really taken off. We are getting a new school building so we wanted to improve our outdoor facility too.”
It incorporates three five a-side pitches, a 9v9 pitch or an 11-a-side pitch for football, and is suitable for rugby and other grass-based sports.
Anyone interested in using the facility is asked to call 01388-603543.
