12:11pm Sunday 20th October 2013 in News
YOUNGSTERS in Swaledale are being invited to take part in a Brazilian music workshop during half-term.
Professional musicians Carla Pires, who plays keyboard, and Felipe Karam, who plays violin, will share their experience of traditional and contemporary Brazilian music and culture at the event on Thursday, October 31 at Reeth Methodist Church from 10.30am to 2.45pm.
Participants can learn to play the spring drum, the snake tube and instruments made with seeds from the Amazon rain forests. There's also the chance to learn dance steps and create a Brazilian band.
The workshop is open to everybody aged seven to 13 years and is organised by the Swaledale Festival on behalf of Youth Music Action Zone and Youth Music.
Tickets are £3 and booking is essential; please ring the Swaledale Festival office on 01748-880018. Anyone who already plays an instrument is asked to bring it with them if possible, and a packed lunch is also required.
