Three arrested in Seaham on suspicion of loan sharking
THREE people have been arrested on suspicion of illegal money lending.
The arrests of two women aged 38 and 59, and a man aged 41 came after police and loan shark investigators raided three homes in Seaham, County Durham, on Tuesday (October 15) morning.
The properties were searched and cash and documents were found.
The raids are part of a joint operation by Durham Police, Durham County Council and the England Illegal Money Lending.
Investigators are now appealing for information from anyone in the area who believes they may have borrowed from an illegal money lender.
Joanne Waller, head of environment, health and consumer protection at Durham County Council, said: “We welcome the recent enforcement action taken to protect our residents and urge anyone with information about illegal lenders to come forward to protect themselves, family and friends.”
Detective Chief Inspector Victoria Fuller said the operation was the latest in a series by the partners against illegal money lenders.
She added: “The message is simple; this activity will not be tolerated and along with our partners we will be relentless in our campaign to stop those involved in it.”
Anyone with information can call the 24-hour hotline on 0300-555-2222.
