New senior officer appointed to oversee Tyne and Wear Fire Service's front line response
A North-East fire brigade has appointed a new assistant chief officer to oversee front line emergency response.
Chris Lowther, previously area manager for service delivery, has been named assistant chief fire officer for community safety in Tyne and Wear.
During 16 years’ service he has performed a variety of operational firefighting roles, as well as filling positions in training, management and community safety functions.
Mr Lowther, 41, still living in his native Gateshead, began his firefighting career at his local station in 1997.
Having served in several different roles, including an instructor at the service’s Washington training centre, he became area manager for service delivery in 2009.
He was the first senior officer to be appointed to cover the whole field of service delivery, including front line operational and community safety response across Tyne and Wear.
