Bids open for Sir Bobby Robson online auction

BIDDING starts today (Thursday, October 10) in an online charity auction which hopes to raise £1m in memory of Sir Bobby Robson.
Over the next 18 days, supporters can post bids for a string of once-in-a-lifetime prizes, including lunch with Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas and a chance to mingle with the greats of the game at next year’s PFA Awards Ceremony.
For fans of other sports, prizes on offer include a VIP trip by private jet to next year’s Monaco Grand Prix and one-to-one bowling tuition from England Ashes hero Graeme Swann.
Other celebrities chipping in with prizes include Amanda Holden, who is offering two VIP tickets to a live Britain’s Got Talent show, and a London lunch date with actor Bill Nighy.
Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough online auction will run until October 27and will raise funds for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and two hospitals in Suffolk, where the footballing legend spent 13 years as manager of Ipswich Town.
Villas-Boas, who worked under the County Durham-born manager during his time at Porto, is the latest star to donate a prize, which will see two lucky fans attend a Tottenham training session, followed by lunch with the manager and a signed team shirt.
He said: "Sir Bobby is a true legend of the game, a great man, a great manager and a real gentleman.
"That Bobby is fighting against cancer even now shows that even though he was taken from us his spirit will never die."
Mark Robson, Sir Bobby’s son, said: "The online auction is a fantastic platform to help us raise crucial funds for these charities and we are looking forward to the auction going live."
