BEAVER Scouts and Cub Scouts from the Northallerton area rose to a challenge laid down by a heart charity and collected dozens of bags of clothing for recycling.

The British Heart Foundation’s Bag-athon was a national campaign held during September to collect as many sacks as possible.

The leader of the 1st Romanby Scout Group, Simon Hickling, said: “We asked everyone to look in their cupboards and wardrobes for anything they no longer wore, to bag it and bring it bag to us.”

Clothing collected as part of the campaign is sold and the money used to fund life saving research into heart disease.

Mr Hickling, from Northallerton, who himself survived a heart attack, added: “This is a cause very close to my heart, so it was great to be able to offer our support. It’s also a good example of the Scout group helping others.”
