Motorcyclist dies in Easington accident
A MOTORCYCLIST has died after his vehicle was involved in a crash with a car.
Ronald Johnson died after his motorbike collided with a Nissan Micra in Easington village on Sunday evening.
The 41-year-old, from Holmhill Gardens, in Easington Colliery, suffered fatal injuries and was taken to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where he was certified dead a short time later.
The accident happened at 7.45pm on the B1283.
A beige coloured Micra, driven by an 84-year-old woman from Peterlee, was heading east along Rosemary Lane intending to turn right into Thorpe Road.
Mr Johnson was riding a black Suzuki GSXR 600 motorbike heading in the opposite direction along Seaside Lane which collided with the car as it turned right.
The driver of the Micra was also treated at the same hospital, for shock and a minor knee injury before being released.
The road was closed for almost three hours after the accident. Police are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone else who may have been on the roads in that area and saw either the car or the motorbike, to contact the collision investigation unit on 0191 375 2159.
