A WENSLEYDALE community has been recognised as the best-looking village in the district.
Richmond Rotary Club announced West Burton as its winner of this year’s Richmondshire best kept village competition, with Ravensworth as the runner-up.
This year 15 villages throughout Richmondshire entered the competition and judging was carried out by members of Richmond Rotary Club during the first two weeks of July.
The competition aimed to encourage village pride among residents with points being awarded for overall tidiness, the quality of maintenance of public as well as private spaces, and all aspects that reflect a concern for the environment including flower beds and low litter.
The prize of £400 was awarded to West Burton Parish Council, and council chairman Jane Richie said the village intends to spend the cash on a new notice board.
Richmond Rotary President Mac Bryant said: “This year’s competition proves once again that our local village communities take real pride in their surroundings.
“Richmond Rotary Club is delighted to encourage and support their efforts which benefit residents and visitors alike.”
The competition was open to all villages with a population of less than 1,000 people. Those that took part were Ravensworth, Moulton, Hudswell, Middleton Tyas, Carlton, Coverdale, Skeeby, Carperby, Caldwell, Grinton, Stapleton, Cleasby, West Burton, Barton, Bellerby and Spennithorne.
