Hurworth restaurant The Bay Horse wins Michelin award for fifth year
A POPULAR restaurant has received a coveted Michelin award for the fifth year running.
The Bay Horse at Hurworth, near Darlington, was awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand recently – its fifth such accolade in as many years.
It highlights outstanding restaurants that offer Michelin standard food at affordable prices.
The Bay Horse is one of 68 restaurants in the country to be given the award – and one of just four in the North-East.
To receive the Bib Gourmand, a restaurant must offer items priced below an amount determined by local economic standards – this year, three courses could cost no more than £28.
Jonathan Hall, who jointly owns The Bay Horse with head chef Marcus Bennett, said: “We’re delighted to have won this award again when keeping menu prices down is becoming harder and harder because of the rising costs of ingredients.
“We have absorbed as many increased costs as possible so as not to impact on our customers’ pockets and pride ourselves on giving Michelin standard food at an affordable price.”
